Design changes on the menu at St Camillus’ Hospital in Limerick

staff-student imageSTUDENTS at the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) have given St Camillus’ Hospital some food for thought after proposing  design changes to the existing dining room at the Shelbourne Road campus.

Students and staff from the Interior Design and Technology Degree course at LIT recently met with St Camillus’ Hospital catering team to survey the existing canteen and produce digitally created scheme designs.

The students presented the team at St Camillus’ with a variety of proposals which included the introduction of various curved architectural forms, coordinated furnishings and warm colour schemes which help to create a more inviting environment as a social space outside of meal times.

Speaking about the project, Niall McPartlin, lecturer in the Built Environment at LIT commented, “Students on the Interior Design and Technology course at LIT are very fortunate in that they are afforded the opportunity to work on real projects. This year’s group were particularly lucky as the project with St Camillus’ Hospital was particularly challenging.
“The Interior Design and Technology course offers modules on the elements and principles of design along with digital imaging and three dimensional computer modelling.
