LIMERICK’S newly elected councillors are fulfilling their election promise to hold a special meeting in Adare this summer.
Public representatives from the new municipal district of Adare-Rathkeale held their first ever meeting under the structures of the joint local authority this Tuesday when one of their first orders of business was to show that their word was good.
In the run up to the local election, they had promised to hold a meeting in Adare to deal with a range of local issues from policing to parking to wireless broadband and making business in the region more efficient.
However, director of Adare-Rathkeale municipal district, Tom Gilligan, explained that there were policy issues to be addressed and asked for time to co-ordinate with the other municipal districts before giving the meeting the all clear.
Cathaoirleach of Limerick City and County Council, Cllr Kevin Sheahan said it was important that they honoured their word and asked for the meeting to go ahead in Adare on July 8.
Cllr Tom Neville, newly elected Cathaoirleach of Adare-Rathkeale, said they had a “duty towards the people” and agreed the meeting should go ahead as promised.
Mr Gilligan said he had no wish to make liars of the councillors and would report back to schedule a date for the meeting.
