“A DEVISED piece,” is how Pius McGrath of Honest Arts Production Company describes the upcoming theatre at Daghdha Space in John’s Square called ‘Waiting in Line’. Set to entertain from this Thursday May 22 to Saturday 24, 8pm, he warns that the sophisticated multi-media element to ‘Waiting in Line’ “is as much a character as the characters themselves” in a work framed by comedy and adult sensibility.
McGrath shares stage and many characters with Clare Langford. Honest Arts’ Tara Doolan directs and co-scripts but he makes clear all three are players in this depiction of life on the dole queue. Research was honed from the history of their circle and beyond.
True account stories are told “by way of dream sequence and flashbacks to situations. The narrative is from real incidences but not word by word”.
Is ‘Waiting in Line’ fair [in its politic]? He feels so: “We are giving an overview, no particular angle or road is taken. These are vignettes of people’s lives”.
Back to the conceptual strands of 3D mapping and more that interface with characters as he and Doolan mine their gold of gifted professional friends and associates. Note that Honest Arts is a production company proper and leans into inventive technical presentation. There’s Mario Beck on video content, Alan Dromer on soundscape, Riverdance’s ‘Heartbeat of Home’ Brian Hehir on lighting, graphic design is by Sam Kehan. See eventbrite.ie (over 15s)
