Limerick TD Dan Neville has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party.
He succeeds Charlie Flanagan who resigned the position last week after he was appointed as the new Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
Deputy Neville previously served as Vice Chairman and was elected to the Chairmanship at the parliamentary party meeting earlier this evening.
A member of Limerick County Council from 1985 to 2003, he was first elected to the Dáil in 1997 and served as Fine Gael spokesperson on Health with special responsibility for Mental Health from 2010 to 2011.
He is president of the Irish Association of Suicidology and is a member of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and a director of the Irish Palatine Association.
Mr Neville, who is 67, is married with two sons and two daughters. He was educated at Adare CBS, the University of Limerick and the School of Management Studies at UCC.
