“WE will walk 500 miles and we will walk 500 more just to be the fans who walk 1,000 miles or more to see you score”
Expect this to be sung with gusto by those travelling to the Aviva Stadium on Sunday May 25 to cheer on Ballynanty Rovers in the FAI Junior Cup final, thanks to the efforts of Limerick musicians The Madhatters (Martin Stewart on vocals, Jim Nestor, Peter Falahee and Roger Cantrell).
The group has penned a lively number called ‘We Will Walk 500 Miles’, which as you may have guessed is a parody of The Proclaimers’ 1988 classic ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’, with the lyrics amended to show support for the cup finalists from Limerick.
Anne Marie Stacke from Ballynanty Rovers, who re-wrote the lyrics for the song, said: “To have our own cup final song is amazing. The Madhatters and everyone did a great job of turning it around so quick and it sounds fantastic so hopefully all our supporters will be singing it on the 25th in the Aviva Stadium and that will give the players the boost they need to bring the cup home to Ballynanty!”
