THE nine-year-old Limerick boy who was rescued from the sea last Sunday night after he fell from a cliff on the North Clare coast has died in a Dublin Hospital.

Aaron O’Flaherty from the Raheen area of Limerick was with his father at a popular fishing location beside Black Head Lighthouse on the Fanore to Ballyvaughan coast road when he fell into the water shortly after 9pm.

Doolin Coast Guard and the Shannon-based Rescue helicopter were scrambled to the scene as it emerged that Aaron had fallen from the cliffs to the water 30ft below. He was treading water but unable to come ashore because of the height of the cliffs.

He was eventually taken from the water in an unconscious state and airlifted to Galway University Hospital after receiving CPR at the scene.

His father received cuts and bruises as he tried to scale the cliffs in an effort to rescue his son.

On Monday, Aaron was transferred in a critical condition to Temple Street Hospital where he died earlier today.
