EFFORTS to resuscitate a woman who fell in to the canal in the early hours of this Friday morning failed after emergency services responded when the woman’s cries for help were heard by people in the locality.
The alarm was raised shortly after 12:30 when distressing calls and shouts were heard by passers by in the locality of Lock Quay, Old Clare Street.
Three tenders from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue service along with members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, Gardai and Emergency medical staff all attended the scene but efforts to revive the woman, in her 50s, failed and she was pronounced dead at University Hospital Limerick a short time later.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out and gardai are continuing their investigations into the tragic death.
