A DISILLUSIONED father-of-two from Patrickswell is planning to run in the local election this month in an attempt to reclaim and restore democracy in Limerick City West.
Jason Griffin (25), who is running as an independent candidate on May 23, believes that those who have suffered the most at the hands of successive governments are the very people who can bring about positive change in their communities.
If elected, Mr Griffin promises to hold monthly public meetings giving his constituents an open forum to have their say.
He has also signed ‘The People’s Contract’ — a guarantee to facilitate on-going democracy in his ward and constantly seek the mandate of his constituents.
“People who always vote have now learned the hard way that no matter which party gets into power, the same inequality of outcome policies will arise. I hope these people will now show their disdain for the parties come May,” he added.
The Patrickswell native, who studied Economics and Sociology at UL, believes the current political system has maintained and degenerated the dysfunctional mechanisms in our society, causing “hardship and suffering”.
