MOLDOVAN native Elena Secas, who is running for election in Limerick City East next month, promises that she is here to stay!

Originally from Moldova, Elena has been living in Limerick since 2001 and became an Irish citizen two years ago. She is married to Dumitru and they have two daughters, Nicole (12) and Alice (3). The Castletroy-based mother-of-two works as a customer service representative for ICON plc.

An interpreter who speaks four languages and a former journalist, Elena is now running as a Labour candidate in the forthcoming elections for Limerick City East. Running as a “new Irish” candidate maintains the same local issues including housing, roads and local health services, are cropping up on doorsteps, whether migrant or native.

The hardworking Labour hopeful cites job creation and local economic development amongst her biggest priorities if elected. Ms Secas told the Limerick Post that she is committed to bringing change to her community.

“In the last local election I stood as a Moldovan national, now I am standing as an Irish national. And I think that answers a lot of questions among the local people because I remember in the last local election people were saying, ‘well, are you here to stay?’ So I think now this proves that yes, I am.”
