THAT Limerick is a constant hub of script writing and film making will surprise those on the outside. Interest in involvement is consuming. Professionals move easily between theatre, performance and film work, be they actors, producer/ directors, writers or technicians. And there are people amongst us accomplished in all skillsets, as evident at Limerick Festival 2014, operated out of LIT.
December 7, 2014 was the day Richard Harris International Film Festival chose to platform Irish film shorts and short films made by Irish film makers. Strong attendance for the 10 screened at 69 O’Connell Street reflected the heat of schedule and content.
Richard Harris International Film Festival 2014 moves forward to settle on the October bank holiday weekend.
“We are upping our game and building on what we had last year,” confirms creative director Eleanor McSherry. “This festival is going to be bigger and better in prestige. We are changing the feature film format, looking at grittier, edgier drama to go with the style of Richard Harris himself.
“Hopefully we will have better support financially although it’s a tough market. A lot of festivals have gone to the wall and the scene is over suscribed”.
What the Richard Harris International Film Festival has going for it is a tight committee of professionals – who understand the value of panache – plus the committed involvement of the Harris sons: Damien, director and writer; Jared, Oscar nominee and Jamie, actor. Each has work credits too long to string here.
More in time on funding, sponsorship, film titles confirmed and ‘names’ from the list of industry contacts worldwide put forward by the Harris family to fan the fuel of this starship enterprise
