Arts grants meeting in Limerick not “controversial enough” for missing city councillors

County HallWITH City arts grants worth €11,050 being allocated at a joint City and County Council meeting this week, Fine Gael county councillor Michael Sheahan queried why more city councillors were not present.

Speaking at the last ever joint Cultural and Sporting Policy Committee meeting at Lissanalta House in Dooradoyle this Tuesday, Cllr Sheahan expressed his shock that more city council members were not in attendance- esp[ecially in view of the fact that funding of over €11,000 was being allocated under the Arts Act recommendations for April 2014.

“If this money was being allocated for County Limerick, all the county councillors would be here,” said Cllr Sheahan.

Fellow Fine Gael councillor William O’Donnell suggested that the meeting may not be “controversial enough” for city councillors.

City councillors in attendance at the meeting included joint chairman Michael Hourigan (FG), Cormac Hurley (FG) and Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Kathleen Leddin (IND), who excused herself from the meeting early on.
