PROUDLY sporting their blush, gloss and lippy, Limerick men have tagged on to the women’s #nomakeupselfie craze that has swamped facebook in support of breast cancer research.

The #manupandmakeup phase of the internet craze is gathering pace as the men of  Limerick join in support of their ‘no make up’ sisters.

Some have gone the whole hog and others have just applied some gloss, but taking the #selfie picture and posting it to facebook while donating €4 to cancer research, has raised almost a quarter of a million euro.

Liam Mulcahy, CEO of Cycle4SickChildren, together with his 13-year-old son applied their lippy and posed for their facebook selfie and donated their money to the cancer charity.

“Ah, we are used to doing crazy stuff for the C4SC cause but this was Dion’s idea after he was nominated. Sometimes he has no choice but to join in the crazy stuff for charity because he is my son, but this time it was all his doing. Fair play to him, not many 13-year-olds would do it.”

Liam explained that his son was nominated on facebook by friends as part of the #manupandmakeup craze and that it shows the positive effect social media can have following the recent negativity of the neck nominations saga.

“Things like this can be turned around very positively and a good cause gets to benefit. As for men taking this up, in the end I see more men doing this than the girls”, Liam added.

Speaking about his own charity work, Liam explains that his daughter Sophie is disabled and a group of cyclists recently held a major fundraiser for St Gabriel’s School where Sophie is a pupil.

Liam said he hopes “a few more of the lads put on their jerseys, as well as the lippy, and pose for a selfie for the cause”.

“Limerick lads are just mad to do this kind of stuff, given half the chance. It’s a great laugh but more importantly it is a very good charity that is going to benefit,” he added.
