Man released without charge in pensioner’s murder investigation

A 54-YEAR-old Limerick man arrested in connection with the suspicious death of a pensioner over four years ago at his county Limerick home has been released without charge.

James Mulqueen was found dead in his home in Ballymakery, Kilcolman, County Limerick on the morning of October 23, 2009 and following a postmortem Gardai upgraded his death to suspicious after the discovery of a number of broken bones throughout his remains.

It was initially thought that the pensioner died as a result of natural causes.

On Thursday last, Gardai in Newcastle West, arrested a male and detained him under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Henry Street Garda Station for questioning.

Shortly before 4pm this Friday, the man was released without charge however a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
