LOCAL election candidate Elena Secas claims that several housing estates in the Limerick City East area have yet to have critical infrastructure transferred to either City or County Council as part of the ‘taking in charge’ process.
And, as a result of the delay. thousands of residents are left without adequate amenities and insufficient facilities.
According to the Labour Party candidate, the infrastructure in certain estates leaves a lot to be desired. She cited Curragh Birín and Glantán as examples and urged Limerick County Council to immediately sort out these estates.
“It is unacceptable that people who have paid significant amounts of money to developers should have to live in estates that are not completed properly,” she said.
“Common problems include open spaces overgrown, grass not cut regularly or collected once cut, no maintenance being provided when problems with essential services such as water, light or road issues arise. The responsibility of completing the ‘taking in charge’ process is now under the remit of the Council’s planning department and I will be asking my colleagues in the Council to request a full report on all outstanding estates and the progress or lack of with these individual estates,” Ms Secas concluded.
