Residents suffer over council failure to take charge of estates

Elena secasLOCAL election candidate Elena Secas claims that several ย housing estates in the Limerick City East area have yet to have critical infrastructure transferred to either City or County Council as part of the โ€˜taking in chargeโ€™ process.

And, as a result of the delay. thousands of residents are left without adequate amenities and insufficient facilities.

According to the Labour Party candidate, the infrastructure in certain estates leaves a lot to be desired. She citedย Curragh Birรญn andย Glantรกn as examples and urged Limerick County Council to immediately sort out these estates.

โ€œIt is unacceptable that people who have paid significant amounts of money to developers should have to live in estates that are not completed properly,” she said.

“Common problems include open spaces overgrown, grass not cutย regularly or collected once cut, no maintenance being provided when problemsย with essential services such as water, light or road issues arise.ย The responsibility of completing the โ€˜taking in chargeโ€™ process is now underย the remit of the Councilโ€™s planning department and I will be asking myย colleagues in the Council to request a full report on all outstanding estatesย and the progress or lack of with these individual estates,โ€ Ms Secasย concluded.
