THE Lime Tree Theatre will host a very special charity concert on Friday April 25 as three legends of Irish entertainment converge on Limerick.
Red Hurley, Brendan Grace and Dickie Rock will all be performing at the venue for a special concert in aid of local charity Clare’s Wish Foundation.
It will be a unique occasion as, for the first time, the three will share the same stage in Limerick and each of them has agreed to perform free of charge.
Singer Red Hurley has been particularly involved in the charity, having attended its launch night at Thomond Park last October, and it was his act of kindness that inspired Kevin Clancy to set up Clare’s Wish Foundation.
Red told the Limerick Post: “I did a charity show many years ago for spina bifida and Kevin’s sister Clare suffered badly with that. When Kevin was setting up the Clare’s Wish Foundation, he contacted me.
“Clare was a Red Hurley fan. That was a long time ago and I remember it distinctly. She was one of those really loyal fans who just wanted to meet up so I met her and spent some time with her. I sang a few songs and signed an album for her. She kept the album and I think Kevin still has it with the inscription that was put on it all those years ago.”
Clare’s Wish Foundation is a charity that grants wishes to people of all ages who are terminally ill and Red believes that it enables volunteers to do something very special for the less fortunate. He also stated that he intends to make further visits to Limerick later in the year in order to pull in more money for the charity.
“The idea is to try and raise between €50,000 and €100,000 a year and then utilise that to its best advantage. It’s a lovely charity and a novel idea.
“A lot of people don’t realise how many young kids have life-threatening diseases. Some of them have no chance of living so you might as well try to give them something for the short time they have left.
“It’s an absolutely wonderful thing to do, to be able to give someone a real special gift before they leave us.”
