ICO Academy
AN innovative partnership in classical strings education, ACADEMOS Irish Chamber Orchestra Academy has been launched at the University of Limerick.
The Academy focuses on a full time two-year programme, the Masters in Classical String Performance which is operated jointly by the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance (IWA) on campus. The programme gives students of classical string performance the opportunity to study, train and perform with some of the world’s best musicians, composers, conductors throughout with classes taught by ICO leaders.
ACEDEMOS students will have the regular opportunity of engaging with ICO community music public outreach programmes such as Sing Out with Strings.
It’s now 20 years since the orchestra and world academy were established at University of Limerick.
Sticks, pipes and priests
ASKEATON Contemporary Arts invites us to local craftsman Sean Barron’s exhibition in the Civic Trust building.
“Barron makes walking sticks, smoking pipes and fishing priests,” explains curator Michele Horrigan. “Initially, his work might be labeled as folk art, yet on further inspection it becomes apparent that his work is instead borne out of an understanding of nature and often humorous interpretations of the environment around him”.
His first exhibition will be accompanied by a 32-page publication with an essay by Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes and interview with Seanie Barron by Horrigan.
‘Walking Sticks, Smoking Pipes and Fishing Priests’ is current until July 12.
