A LEGAL challenge is to be made before the High Court this week in an attempt to prevent strike action at Shannon Airport as well as two other four hour stoppages at both Cork and Dublin airports.

Both the DAA and Ryanair were granted leave to bring the application before the High Court asking it to grant an injunction against SIPTU.

The DAA said they were left with no option after the union failed to respond positively to two communications seeking that the threat of action be lifted.

The argument will centre around the DAA’s claim that the strike is unlawful.

The court will also hear from the DAA claiming that only a portion of SIPTU members were balloted and that the planned stoppages next Friday between 5am and 9am are contrary to agreements already in place.
