STRIKE action is set to threaten travel plans at the start of the St Patrick’s Bank Holiday weekend in Shannon, in a row about pensions.
SIPTU, the union representing ground handlers at the MId West airport, as well as workers at Dublin and Cork, has this week served strike notice on the Shannon Airport Authority.
Notice has also been served on the other two airports.
Union members plan to stage a stoppage from 5am to 9am on Friday March 14.
The dispute has been in the pipeline for several years and so far, attempts by the trustees of the pension fund to come up with a solution acceptable to staff have failed.
