What was described as a conspiracy silence surrounds the whereabouts of Limerick businessman sought by the High Court in connection with a €24 million judgement against him by the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA).

This week, the Commercial sitting of the High Court was told that Gardaí were unable to locate John Shee at his home on Limerick’s South Circular Road after they were ordered by Mr Justice Peter Kelly to present him before the court .

The court was told that there was no sign of life when Gardaí called to Mr Shee’s home and that inquiries with relatives had proved fruitless. Sergeant Gearóid Thompson said an alert had been activated at all entries and exits from the country.

Mr Justice Kelly said there appeared to be “a kind of conspiracy of silence” concerning Mr Shee’s whereabouts and it appeared there was very little more the Gardaí could do.

He directed that the order would remain with gardai to find Mr Shee and bring him before the court to explain why he should not be jailed for contempt of an order requiring him to provide a sworn statement of his assets and liabilities.

NAMA secured the order after Mr Shee and others failed to make repayments under a €24 million High Court judgment against them in March 2011.

In a separate case before Mr Justice Kelly, Eugene McManemy of Dunguir, North Circular Road, Limerick consented to a €19.5million judgment order being entered against him.
