SOCCER fans in Limerick were in for a real treat last week as Irish soccer manager Martin O’Neill travelled to the sporting city. O’Neill began with a visit to the ongoing development at the Markets Field site known as the spiritual home of Limerick soccer including the newly re-surfaced pitch.
There was great excitement surrounding the new manager’s visit as he was also in the city to announce the Irish squad for next week’s friendly against Serbia.
O’Neill was kept busy at the ground happily posing for pictures with local fans and signing autographs and later he attended a special event organised by Limerick FC.
The special fundraising evening took place at Thomond Park with fans relishing the chance to meet the Ireland manager.
Over 170 fans enjoyed a delicious sit down dinner including a salad starter, chicken with Clonakilty pudding and cheesecake before the main event. After dinner more fans arrived for the Q&A segment of the night. They enjoying a selection of finger food before chairman Pat O’Sullivan officially welcomed Limerick FC’s special guest and unveiled plans for the clubs move to a new training facility in Bruff
Joe Nash from Limerick’s Live 95fm then hosted the special Q&A session with O’Neill who regaled everyone with host of stories from his time in football.
Fans were also given the opportunity to address O’Neill and there was plenty of questions about everything from his opinion on Roy Keane to José Mourinho making for a very entertaining evening for all.
