A NEW fertility clinic will open in Limerick next month to facilitate couples who have previously had to travel outside the region for fertility treatment.
The Cork Fertility Centre has announced an expansion of services to include an outreach clinic at Park Manor, Upper Mallow Street in Limerick which will specialise in fertility consultations and testing, ultrasonography, ovulation induction (OII), follicle tracking and intrauterine insemination.
Leading the new clinic is Dr John Waterstone, consultant at Cork Maternity Hospital and Bon Secours Hospital and medical director of the Waterstone Group.
Cork Fertility Centre has been in operation since 2002 and, according to Dr Waterstone, delivers success rates that match the best in the UK and USA.
“Fertility difficulties affect as many as one in five couples in Ireland. Sometimes it can relate to something as simple as lifestyle, which can be addressed and resolved easily. Other couples may need fertility treatment in order to conceive,” said Dr Waterstone.
“Assisted reproductive services are evolving and when the best medical and nursing care is combined with the latest scientific developments, notable success rates can be achieved for couples,” he explained.
A free fertility information seminar will be hosted by the Waterstone Group at No. 1 Pery Square on Saturday March 1 at 10am to give practical advice about fertility issues and how to maximise the chances of conception. There will be a series of talks by the clinic’s team of gynaecologists, scientists and nurses who will also be available to answer general queries from couples trying to conceive.
