IT TRADED for almost 40 years and it was shop name that rolled off many a north side tongue, but the closure of Ivan’s on the Ennis Road in Caherdavin will be seen as the end of an era in the area.
Ivan’s Shop in Caherdavin has closed its doors, served its last famous cake, cut the last of the crumbed ham and folded its last newspaper after 38 years in business.
Famous for flowers, cakes and groceries alike, the newsagents moved into event and outdoor catering in recent years as the business grew and became well known for quality.
The closure brings with it the loss of around 30 jobs.
Last weekend, staff were notified and the doors of the premises were closed and with it went a lifetime of memories for the residents.
Owned by the ever present and popular local man, Ivan Cremins, the newsagents and grocery store owner puts the closure down to “hard economic times over the last few years”.
The closure, they say, is “forced”.
This Monday morning, signs were posted on the windows thanking the loyalty and support of customers over its years of trading.
The post office, located adjacent to the shop, continues to trade.
Meantime, it is understood that the Lifestyle store in Arthur’s Quay has also closed its door for trading.
