After Dark – Hozier Gig at Dolan’s Warehouse

LAST FRIDAY 10 night Dolan’s Warehouse hosted a gig with one of Ireland’s fast rising stars Hozier as the Irish soul/ blues singer performed at a sell out concert at the venue. The venue could have probably sold out a few times over such was the interest in the gig as he continues on his  tour of Ireland and then onto other venues across the UK and the Netherlands.

While many people will think he came out of nowhere with the huge popularity of ‘Take me to Church’ which reached number 1 in the Irish iTunes singles chart and number 2 on the official chart, the Wicklow born singer songwriter Andrew Hozier Byrne, who’s father was also a musician, has been around for many years honing his craft.

He taught himself to play piano and guitar has a huge passion for rhythm, blues soul and jazz and joined his first band when he was just 15 years old. He went onto study music at Trinity College performing as lead vocalist with the Trinity Orchestra before leaving to record demos for Universal Music.

Despite suffering from ‘flu on the night Hozier impressed the crowd who had travelled from all over the country to enjoy an intimate gig with the singer with tracks like ‘Like Real People Do’, ‘Cherry Wine’ and of course his breakthrough single ‘Take me to Church’ to name but a few in what was his first Limerick show.

Coming up this weekend at Dolan’s there’s a George Michael Tribute gig you might like to put in your diary. The gig will raise funds for Clare’s Wish Foundation. I met Kevin Clancy who recently founded the Limerick based charity at an event last week and he told me all about the concert which will raise funds for this charity which he set up in memory of his sister Clare who was born with Spina Bifida. She passed away several years ago aged just 24.

The foundation grants the wishes of adults and children with life threatening conditions and disabilities and it’s the only charity in Ireland granting adults a wish.

Tickets for the event are just €10 and in addition to supporting a great cause you’ll be treated to a must see gig for fans of George Michael as James Bermingham’s tribute act brings you all the best of the legendary singer from his time with Wham! right up to the present day.
