Weather warning level upgraded to Orange status

MET Eireann has upgraded the weather warning for the west coast counties of Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Galway and Mayo to status “Orange” as the storm front intensifies off shore.

High winds of up to 80km/h are expected as the afternoon progresses but by later tonight heavy rain and winds of up to 120km/h are expected to hit the coast as the mid Atlantic storm front batters its way to land.

The severe weather warning is in effect until midday on Monday while the conditions are expected to remain, although at a lower level, until at least Tuesday.

Localised spot flooding and debris will hinder motorists who are urged to take care and only travel if necessary as the day and night progress.
