A WOMAN was dramatically rescued from a burning building by firefighters in Limerick this Saturday after she was found semi unconscious.

The blaze, which engulfed a vacant building on Broad Street, broke out shortly after 1pm causing damage to the property.

The female casualty was found semi-unconscious in an upstairs bedroom by firefighters who broke their way in to the premises.

Having been plucked from the smoke filled room, it is understood that the woman was left dazed and in a stricken state by the inhalation of the toxic fumes that originated from the blaze.

The area was cordoned off after three units from the Limerick City Fire and Rescue, assisted by one fire tender from Shannon, attended the scene.

The woman was taken to the University Hospital Limerick where she was treated for her smoke inhabitation and other injuries.

An investigation is now underway in connection to the incident and a cause for how the fire broke out.
