Batten down the hatches as Limerick gets severe weather warning

Andrew Carey

COUNTIES along the west coast including Limerick have been issued with a severe weather warning including an “orange alert” from Met Éireann as another night of heavy rains and gales are set to batter the country.

A storm with winds up to 125km/h had left the Canadian coast and is making its way across the Atlantic.

Due to fully hit these shores on Monday night, the storm has already reeked havoc on the Eastern seaboard of the US and Canada.

In light of that, Met Éireann has issued a new weather warning this evening, predicting strong gales in many parts of the country as a weather front moves ahead of the storm.

A Status Orange Wind Warning has been issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
South to southwest winds are predicted to reach mean speeds of 65 to 80km/h and will gust 110 to 129km/h.

Freezing temperatures and heavy rain is also expected overnight.
