LIMERICK has received a timely jobs boost after US BioPharma giant Regeneron followed through on its initial plans to bring a manufacturing facility to the city and with it the creation of 300 new jobs at the former Dell plant.
A refit and expansion of the 11 acre site in Raheen will create 600 temporary jobs over a two year period and in 2016, the US company expects to have its full compliment of staff in place.
Scientist, engineers and technicians will make up the work force at the new worldclass site once it is complete.
The announcement has been overwhelmingly welcomed in the city after Dell exited the plant in 2009 with the loss of 1900 jobs.
Citing Limerick’s attraction to do business, the company have said that they are pleased to establish this the first expansion of their company outside the US.
New York-headquartered Regeneron Pharmaceuticals markets medicines for eye diseases, colorectal cancer, and a rare inflammatory condition, and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including hypercholesterolemia, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis.
