A THIEF who walked into court with a bag of cosmetics stolen from a pharmacy an hour earlier, was given a four month suspended sentence at Limerick District Court.

Danielle McCormack (22) of Hartstonge Street, Limerick walked into the public gallery at Limerick District Court last Wednesday afternoon with a clear plastic bag containing after-shave, slimming tablets, make-up and other cosmetic products valued at €130.

Noticing the woman carrying the goods, Garda Shane Hayes questioned her about their origin. He suspected that the goods may have been stolen and when he established that they had been taken from a pharmacy in Castletroy earlier in the day, he arrested and charged the defendant.

Ms McCormack, who had 17 previous convictions and was in court on seven other charges of stealing goods valued at over €490, pleaded guilty to all charges including the charge brought by Garda Hayes.

Defence solicitor Sarah Ryan apologised to the court and the pharmacy on behalf of her client. She said that Ms McCormack suffered from a medical condition.

Judge Eugene O’Kelly sentenced her to four months in prison on all charges but suspended the sentence for a period 12 months.
