LIMERICK retailers, businesses and the wider community, as with those around the rest of the country, will breathe and sigh of relief this week as the ESB saga has come to an end ahead of what had been dubbed the “black Monday” strike.
ESB unions have struck a deal with management regarding their pension concerns after a weekend of crunch talks to avert planned strikes by workers.
Workers at the State body had said that their would be power outages as a results of the strikes scheduled for Monday December 16.
Following a weekend of talks facilitated by the Labour Relations, both sides met with agreement and the matter has been resolved.
A statement said; “The ESB workers have been publicly vilified for nothing more than protecting themselves and their families against an attempted destruction of their bought and paid for pension rights,” it claimed.
Praise was also given to the “unity and determination” of the workers, their representatives and the wider trade union movement, the statement said.
