STAFF had to rush to move patients at the University hospital in Dooradoyle after a pierced watermains flooded three wards.
16 patients were moved to alternative locations at University Hospital Limerick this morning after the wards were flooded following the accidental piercing of a water main during construction work.
No patients were injured and the hospital itself remained open for business. The damage happened during construction of a multi storey block which is being built to house a new Breast Unit and new facilities for cystic fibrosis, Parkinsons, and Dermatology.
A hospital spokesperson said; “Removing 16 beds from the system poses obvious difficulties but we are satisfied that all patients are being looked after and we are now appealing to the public and to all GPs in the region for their co-operation in this emergency. Nobody should attend the hospital save in a case of genuine emergency.”
