THE last formal gig for Limerick Jazz this year, other than the end of year improvisation party of multiple ensembles on December 8, will be Yurodny.
Taking place in the reliable venue of Dolan’s Upstairs, this Balkan influenced band will play out the night on Thursday December 12, 9pm on.
Arts page hears of “crazed instrumental virtuosity” and Yurodny arrives in Limerick on foot of a December tour of the country. It’s a nine-piece multi instrumental band with Cora Venus Lunny on violin and viola plus David Redmond on drums.
Founded in 2007 by the saxophonist, composer and producer Nick Rot, this grouping comprises a diverse mix of many of Ireland’s leading musicians from across the spectrum.
“This tour sees them reuniting with many old friends and making new ones…… their debut ‘Odd Set’ recording was made at the Glen’s Centre in Manorhamilton in 2008,” reports John Daly, host with Limerick Jazz.
‘Triumphant’, ‘irresistible’, ‘exhilarating’ are some of the tags that follow Roth, regular visitor to Limerick Jazz, and his corps around.
Sniff out the eastern European traditional sounds, revved up and made over, on website www.yurodny.com. This tour is supported by The Arts Council.
