LAUREL Hill Coláiste FCJ student Una Harty is one of eight pop-mad teenagers battling it out for the ultimate ‘access all areas’ work placement in new RTE series ‘Music Inc’.
The seven part series sees Transition Year students getting a weekly backstage pass to meet and work with some of the biggest names in the music industry. Each week, top Irish tour manager and Louis Walsh’s right hand man Liam McKenna sets out challenges that sees contestants get face to face with some of the biggest names in pop, including The Saturdays and The Wanted.
“For a young person, this is a great opportunity,” said Liam, who has worked with everyone from Westlife to Girls Aloud and Jedward.
Challenges set by Liam include producing a music video for District 3 and creating merchandise for The Wanted amongst others, while Louis Walsh sets and judges a media challenge. The final two teenagers battle it out while managing JLS at an Irish Summer festival with the boyband themselves selecting the ultimate winner.
“They’re going to see both sides of the business. This is going to open their eyes to what it’s really like,” said Liam.
Limerick student Una Harty was the only contestant to be attending Fifth Year while filming; she is studious and likes to do well in school. The Patrickswell girl said she admires Ryan Sheridan because he began on the streets of Dublin but is now in demand due to his pure talent.
Episode one of ‘Music Inc’ will air on RTE Two at 5pm on Monday November 11.
