Camogue Rovers GAA club
Football

Camogue Rovers were denied a place in the county final of the Junior B football championship as they lost to Feenagh Kilmeedy in the county semi final on Saturday 2nd November in Ballyagran after extra time on a scoreline of 1-9 to 2-7. Conditions were very poor as there were very heavy showers and a strong wind. This meant for very slippery conditions under foot and a ball that was more like a wet bar of soap. Camogue Rovers played with the aid of the wind in the first half and perhaps failed to really capitalise on the advantage of the wind as they only scored 1-3 but the Camogue Rovers defense really kept Feenagh Kilmeedy at bay as they only conceded one point. Camogue Rovers captain, Michael Lynch, opened the scoring for Camogue Rovers with a goal in the first few minutes of the game. Feenagh replied with a point shortly after and Camogue Rovers finished out the scoring in the opening half with points from Arthur Riordan, Anthony Punch and Anthony Neylon. When David Cregan was pulled down close to the goal mouth in the first half Camogue Rovers were awarded a penalty, however, a great save from the Feenagh Kilmeedy keeper denied Camogue Rovers of further extending their lead.

In the second half Feenagh Kilmeedy played with the aid of the wind, but Camogue Rovers showed great strength and determination as they got the opening score of the second half with a point from Arthur Riordan. Feenagh Kilmeedy fought back and replied with a point and Camogue Rovers once again counteracted this with a point from Anthony Punch. Camogue Rovers were now 6 points up but playing against a very strong wind and Feenagh Kilmeedy changed their tactics as they moved their tall midfielder into full forward and sent in high balls. Shortly after doing this Feenagh Kilmeedy got a goal, followed by 2 points from placed balls and one point from play to make it a draw with 5 minutes to go. Camogue Rovers were far from dead and buried as they fought back and recaptured the lead with a point from Jake Mulcahy. But Camogue Rovers luck ran out in injury time as Feenagh Kilmeedy got a point to draw the game on a scoreline of 1-6 to 1-6 taking the game to extra time.

There were a lot of tired and sore bodies going into extra time as every player had tried his very best throughout the game. Camogue Rovers Captain, Michael Lynch showed great spirit and strength of character as he got the 2 opening points in extra time putting Camogue Rovers back in the lead. However, the lead was short lived as Feenagh Kilmeedy got a goal at the other end to take the lead for the first time in the game.

Feenagh Kilmeedy were now a point ahead on a scoreline of 1-8 to 2-6 going into the second half of extra time but Anthony Punch stepped up to take a free for Camogue Rovers and put it over the bar to bring it back to a draw. Camogue Rovers were hungry for the win and put everything they had into it for the last 5 minutes but unfortunately three chances they had went wide and that much sought after point to put them back in the lead alluded them. In the last few minutes Feenagh Kilmeedy regrouped and rallied down the field and despite great defensive efforts by Camogue Rovers they managed to find a way through and they recaptured the lead once more just before the final whistle was blown. The game finished on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-9 in favour of Feenagh Kilmeedy.

The team and scorers were as follows: M Cronin, W Moloney, T O Donnell, B O Connor, M O Donnell, S O Sullivan G Creamer, P O Connor, J Hayes, A Neylon (0-1), J Mulcahy (0-1), A Riordan (0-2), A Punch (0-3), M Lynch (1-2), D Cregan. Substitutes: J Cosgrove, T McCarthy, J Ryan, M Hennesey, B Hogan.

Camogue Rovers football championship campaign is now finished for another year. We would like to thank the management, selectors and trainers for their time, dedication and commitment throughout the year, namely Jim Cronin, Seamus O Loughlin and Arthur Riordan. Thanks also to the players, supporters and sponsors.

Fairview Rangers AFC

First up were our under 10’s playing corbally away in the league. Unfortunately our recent run of wins came to a halt, losing 4-0 on the day. The team itself did not perform as it can, although in saying that, the game itself was a lot closer then the score line suggests. Still, even though we lost this one, we are currently in the top four of this division, which is no mean achievement.
Next were our under 14’s, who play Mungret, in the league. All league matches for this team, are now like cup ties, as they are top of their league as we speak. The lads did not disappoint, with a well merited 5-2 win. Leading 3-1 at half time, with goals from Dara Finn, Adam Kiely and Adam Marshall, we added another two to our tally in the second half through Eoin Quigley and Michael Clancy leaving the management well pleased with the performance, and also the fact that they had five different goals scorers on the day. Those to play well on the day, outside of those already mentioned, were Alan Kiely and Alex Kiely ( with so many A.kiely’s on the team it must be a nightmare for referees!!) . Our 17’s played a league encounter on Sunday afternoon. Although beaten 5-1, the result does not reflect the closeness of the encounter.
Aisling had a purple patch over a ten minute period, scoring three goals without reply. Our scorer on the day was Kyle Brogan with a fine effort. Congratulations  to our representatives’ on the limerick youth team, who started their campaign with a win during the week, with Brian O’Connor adding to his growing reputation with one of the goals, and also to Junior player Stephen Bradley for his call up to the limerick Junior squad. Our under 11’s were also in action in a league fixture, as were our under 13’s. Our 11’s were pencilled in to play limerick f.c., but received a walkover on the day. Our 13’s continued their unbeaten run, with a 2-2 draw against regional away. Losing 1-0, our lads responded magnificently, with two fine efforts from Craig Bromell and Donal Dillon, to leave us leading at the short whistle. Regional equalised in the second half, and although we dominated proceedings, we could not find a winner. Even at the death we had a ball cleared off the line. Those to shine on the day were Mason O’Brien, James Hourigan and Jake Vaughan. So to Sunday and our A team in action versus Regional away in the FAI cup. Shorn of the services of players through injury, our recent run of defeats continued. The lads tried their best in particular Shane Power, Niall O’Riordan and Stephen Bradley. We just have to keep the heads up, knuckle down in training, and we will turn the corner sooner rather than later. Niall O’Riordan received a nasty head injury, through an accidental clash, and all at the club wish him a speedy recovery.

Limerick Hockey Club

Limerick 1sts men’s team were undone by a strong defensive unit away in Garryduff on Sunday against Church of Ireland. The away side lost out 3-2 but can count themselves very unlucky not to come away with a draw, they had a goal disallowed controversially in the dying minutes with the umpire adjudging Cathal Duggan to have played the ball with his body before scoring. David Cardy and Nathan Eacrett were the scorers of Limericks goals. The away side were 2-1 up at half time but a sin binning proved costly as Limerick shipped 2 goals in 2 minutes to fall behind. Roger Clarke and Glenn Morrow were best for limerick. Next up is Portrane at home on Saturday 9th 2pm in the Irish Challenge Cup, all support is welcome! Team-J. Scheffel, R. Doherty, G. Morrow, K. Benson, A. Smith, P. Brennan, T. Clarke , R. Clarke, J. Powell, N. Eacrett, C. Duggan, D. Cardy, A. Khan.

This weekend sees us back in Munster Club hurling action when Waterford Champions Passage visit the Gaelic Grounds. Preparations are going well and minus fullback Kieran Breen(misses game through suspension) we have a clean bill of health. The action commences at 2pm next Sunday and here is hoping that the lads get a big support from the community and show Passage that we too have fanatical supporters  here in Limerick. Our club shop is again open on Friday night for all your essentials for the day. Jerseys,Hoodies, hats, flags all at excellent prices. The shop will be open from 7 to 8pm on Friday so see you there. We wish Sean Stack and his management team the very best of luck and here is hoping we will be back in a Munster Final by Sunday evening.

UNDER 10 HURLERS

Last Sunday afternoon our U/10 hurlers played Monaleen  in a great game. Despite the recent poor weather, Monaleen had their pitch in great condition and both teams played with great skill and tenacity throughout. John Fitzgerald and JJ Carey were very quick to get into their stride at midfield and our forwards were presented with many opportunities in the early period as a result. Patrick O Neill had a particularly good start, scoring 1-1 on his right side within the first 10 minutes while Charles Hogan carried forward his great form at training with an outstanding score from an acute angle to give Na Piarsaigh a good lead at half-time. As expected, Monaleen rallied at the start of the second half and put our lads under pressure with some vigourous yet disciplined tackling. Another fine goal from Patrick O’ Neill settled our lads again and a great display from Luke Hegarty in an unaccustomed position of centre half forward ( the highlight of which was an excellent point with 5 minutes remaining ) helped to seal a well earned victory against a gallant Monaleen team who never gave up. Dylan Lynch, James Naughton and Cathal Hassett all had particularly good games while Cian Brosnan battled courageously in the 2nd Half despite picking up an injury. All players again again played very well and show signs of improvement with every game. Well done, lads.

Oola GAA Club

U21 Football Championship

Pallasgreen GAA Club

Sunday saw our Minor hurlers face Bruff in the County semi final in the Gaelic Grounds. Pallas got off to a great start leading 2-2 to 2 points after 8 mins. Lack of discipline, allowing Bruff to score ten points from frees, for the rest of the half ensured that Bruff were leading 0-11 to 2-3 at half time. Pallas got out of the block fast in the beginning of the second half and went 1 point ahead after 3 minutes of the second half. Goals from David Hannon and Brian Fanning helped maintain the momenutum of the Pallasgreen team. A strong defence throughout the match ensured a Pallasgreen victory by 5-11 to 0-13. Pallas now play Murroe Boher in both the County & City East Finals. Scorers were: Brian Fanning3-3, Colin Malachy 1-3, David Hannon 1-1, Alan Cosgrave 0-2, Daragh Fanning and Darren Cosgrave 0-1 each.
