A LIMERICK mother is to face trial after being charged with the endangerment of her son and daughter over a four and a half year period.
The mother faces two charges before the courts but last week, Inspector Dermot O’Connor told the court that the matter was to proceed by way of indictment and that the mother was to be sent forward to the higher courts for trial as per the directions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Before judge Eugene O’Kelly on bail, the mother was remanded on further continuing bail pending the completion of the Garda investigation and compilation of evidence.
Living on the outskirts of the city, the mother is charged with assaulting and ill-treating her children at their home in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury on dates between the December 14, 2007 and June 24, 2012.
She did not appear in court when her case was called at Limerick District Court however she did turn up after proceedings were heard but Judge O’Kelly did not issue a bench warrant as the directions of the DPP had just been preferred so the matter was for mention only.
Judge O’Kelly adjourned the matter to January 8, 2014 after Inspector Dermot O’Connor requested a lengthy adjournment, describing the case as one with a “complex background”.
