LOVERS of Michelin rated pub food will have to seek their fare outside of Limerick as Shannonside pubs came up short in the latest Eating Out guide for 2014.

But while there was no luck for Limerick pubs listed amongst the 34 that made the prestigious Michelin ‘Eating Out In Pubs’ Guide for 2014, the region as a whole did very well with Clare, Tipperary, Cork and Kerry all being well represented.

Amongst the five new editions to the list that covers 15 counties are Clare establishments Linnane’s Lobster Bar in New Quay and Morrissey’s in Doonbeg.

Much loved by Limerick visitors to Clare, Aidan McGrath’s Wild Honey Inn based in Lisdoonvarna was one of three pubs noted for special merits by the inspectors while Vaughan’s retained its place again.

Cork nailed six listings to the coveted guide.

O’Neill’s Seafood Bar and QC’s, both in Caherciveen were best for Kerry.

Also included in the 2014 Guide were Larkins in Garrykennedy and the Fatted Calf in Glasson in Westmeath.

Guide editor Rebecca Burr said that all pubs listed in the Guide have been “rigorously inspected” by a team of full-time inspectors — the same team that produce the famed Michelin Great Britain & Ireland restaurant guide.

She added that pub patrons will no longer put up with bad food.

Last September, none Irish restaurants were awarded coveted Michelin stars
