Doon GAA Club
County Junior B Hurling Championship
Doon’s Junior B team played Feohanagh Castlemahon in Kilfinane last Saturday afternoon in the county semi final of the championship. A good game with two very evenly matched teams resulted in a draw at the end of 60 minutes and was still a draw after two periods of extra time. Doon held a lead of 4 points at the end of the first half and had been assisted by a breeze (1-6 to 0-5). Rob McLoughlin’s goal was the obvious difference between the sides. In the second half a Paddy Coleman free and a Tadhg Hayes free were all we could score against the wind while Feohanagh Castlemahon scored 6 points – 2 of which were frees. In the first part of extra time we had points through a 65 from Tadhg Hayes and one from the stick of Shane Whelan while we conceded one at the other end. Then in the last ten minutes Feohanagh Castlemahon were to score one more point leaving the sides again level at the final whistle. Final score Doon 1-10 Feohanagh Castlemahon 0-13.
Doon team & scorers – John Murphy, Eamonn Duggan, James Fox, James Nolan, Eddie Ryan, Tadhg Hayes (0-2), Shane Whelan (0-1), Padhric Ryan, Cathal Maher, Seamie Ryan, Paddy Coleman (0-5), Shane Brennan (0-1), Shane McKenna, Kevin Lenihan, Rob McLoughlin (1-1). Fairview Rangers AFC
A rather curtailed fixture list this week with only three fixtures involving the club. First up were our under 10’s playing corbally away in the league. Unfortunately our recent run of wins came to a halt, losing 4-0 on the day. The team itself did not perform as it can, although in saying that, the game itself was a lot closer then the score line suggests. Still, even though we lost this one, we are currently in the top four of this division, which no mean achievement.
Next were our under 14’s, who play Mungret, in the league. All league matches for this team, are now like cup ties, as they are top of their league as we speak. The lads did not disappoint, with a well merited 5-2 win. Leading 3-1 at half time, with goals from Dara Finn, Adam Kiely and Adam Marshall, we added another two to our tally in the second half through Eoin Quigley and Michael Clancy leaving the management well pleased with the performance, and also the fact that they had five different goals scorers on the day. Those to play well on the day, outside of those already mentioned, were Alan Kiely and Alex Kiely ( with so many A.kiely’s on the team it must be a nightmare for referees!!) . Lastly our 17’s played a league encounter on Sunday afternoon.
Although beaten 5-1, the result does not reflect the closeness of the encounter. Aisling had a purple patch over a ten minute period, scoring three goals without reply. Our scorer on the day was Kyle Brogan with a fine effort. Congratulations also to our representatives’ on the limerick youth team, who started their campaign with a win during the week, with Brian O’Connor adding to his growing reputation with one of the goals, and also to Junior player Stephen Bradley for his call up to the limerick Junior squad.

Limerick Hockey Club
Limerick Men’s 2nds travelled to Church of Ireland in Cork on Sunday. Travelling with only 11 players, Limerick showed real heart and played the better hockey in the first half to go 3-0 up at half time. Limerick’s Penalty Corner was in top form with Philip Brennan scoring the first goal of a sharp rebound off the goal keepers pads. Luke Cardy scored a fantastic individual goal 10 minutes later, running the length of the field to score, with Andrew Smith scoring the 3rd of a well worked Penalty Corner. COI came back in the second half scoring an early goal, but Limerick were able to keep them scoreless from there, the final score 3-1 to Limerick. The win put Limerick on the top of the table after 4 games. Team: J. Scheffel, D. Barkman, C. Morrow, M. Houghton, S. Cheatly, A. Smith, G. Blackwell, L. Cardy, D. Cheatly, K. Beck, P. Brennan
Na Piarsaigh GAA Club
SENIOR HURLERS
We were back in Munster Club action at the weekend when we travelled to Thurles to take on Tipperary Champions Loughmore Castleiney.
Played in very poor conditions in front of a paltry 1600 spectators we got off to a good start with the opening two scores coming from Shane Dowling.
With only a few minutes on the clock Loughmore were reduced to 14 men for an off the ball incident in which full forward Kevin Ryan was left prone on the ground.
This seemed to spur our challengers into action and from the 20 minute they rattled off 1-06 without reply to turn a three point deficit into a six point lead at the break 1-11 to 0-08.
Shortly after the break we received another sucker punch when our defence switched off to allow a quickly taken free find the net to leave us in serious trouble, now 10 points down.Kevin Downes got a goal back for us 5 minutes into the second half and this also resulted in a second red card for Loughmore.
Five minutes later we got our second goal when David Dempsey found the net to leave just two points between the teams.
However Loughmore refused to buckle and further points from Noel McGrath extended their lead back to four points.
Points from Shane Dowling, Pat Gleeson and captain James O Brien close the gap to the minimum .
By now we ourselves we down to 14 men when full back Kieran Breen was sent off for off the ball incident.
On the stroke of full time full forward Kevin Ryan unleashed a rasper which was superbly blocked but the in rushing David Dempsey was on hand to fire home from close range.
Another McGrath point closed the gap to one point before the last word was left to ace free taker Shane Dowling to point a free from his own 65 to finish the game on a scoreline of Na Piarsaigh 3-17 Loughmore Castleiney 2-18.
Scorers: David Dempsey (2-1), Kevin Downes (1-2), Shane Dowling(0-5,4f),Kevin Ryan, Pat Gleeson(0-2), David Breen, James o Brien, William O Donoghue, Kieran Kennedy,Adrian Breen(0-1each).
Next up Waterford Champions Passage in the Gaelic Grounds on November 10th.

Pallasgreen GAA Club
1) Juvenile club Fixtures.
Sunday saw our Minor hurlers face Monaleen in the City/East semi-final. In what was to prove to be a tough game, Pallasgreen proved to have the edge. A goal after twelve minutes from Brian Fanning proved to be the catalyst to Pallasgreen’s first half, with some accurate free taking from Colin Ryan helping the team to a half time lead of 1-8 to 0-3. The second half saw Monaleen fight very hard to get back into the match, but some stout defending by Pallasgreen ensured the victory. A late surge of 1-3 from the city men left the game in the balance but Pallasgreen held out to ensure their victory by 1-13 to 1-8. Congratulations to our players on reaching the City/East final, and well done for all the effort they put in. Scorers were: Colin Ryan 0-10 (all frees), Brian Fanning 1-1, David Hannon and Darren Cosgrave a point each.
