A VERY special event took place at Thomond Park last Saturday 12 night as organisers officially launched the charity Clare’s Wish Foundation. The Limerick based charity was founded in April of this year by Kevin Clancy in memory of his sister, Clare who was born with Spina Bifida and tragically passed away several years ago aged just 24.
The idea behind the charity is to help grant the ‘Wishes’ of both adults and children with life-threatening conditions and disabilities and it is the only charity in Ireland granting adults a Final Wish. It’s through the granting of these wishes that the charity can help give long-lasting memories and make dreams come true. There are four types of wishes that the charity provides: a ‘Wish to Be’, a ‘Wish to Have’, a ‘Wish to Go’ and a ‘Wish to Meet’.
Family and friends of the foundation gathered for the launch much to the delight of the charities founder Kevin . “This was a very special night for the Clare’s Wish Foundation and it was great to have all our family and friends here to share this moment with us,” he said.
Lynn Buffington, director of development at the Mid West Spina Bifida Association, spoke eloquently at the launch about the vital work being done and legendary singer Red Hurley paid a surprise visit on the night. He even performed a-capella, much to the delight of those attending.
Well known Limerick magician Leon Anderson was on hand to keep everyone entertained and other highlights included musical entertainment from talented Cork singer Liliana Inch and performances from Limerick’s Emma Kate Langford and Acoustra.
Those supporting the fundraiser also enjoyed delicious finger food, a raffle and spot prizes as the charity was officially launched. Congratulations to all involved and log onto www.clareswishfoundation.com for more details on this fantastic new charity.
