A SEMI-automatic handgun used in a shooting in Moyross is to be destroyed on foot of a Garda application to Limerick District Court.

The Glock pistol was used in a shooting at College Avenue in April 2010 when a number of shots were fired at a house. A youth was arrested and charged with the possession of gun and the endangerment of others causing a risk of death or serious harm.

In 2011, the youth was convicted at Limerick Circuit Court and Judge Carroll Moran later sentenced him to five years in prison.

Last week, Judge Eugene O’Kelly granted a district court application from Superintendent Daniel Keane to have the weapon destroyed.

A second application for the destruction of an unclaimed pedal cycle taken in a robbery two years ago was also brought before the court.

However Judge O’Kelly rejected the application and ruled that the bicycle should be given to an international charity instead.
