Council defers youth centre vote

Limerick city councillors have deferred a decision on a controversial proposal to develop a multi-purpose youth centre in Ballynanty.
Council approval had been sought by Limerick Youth Service to build the centre on public land adjacent to Thomond Park stadium.
This eveningโ€™s council meeting was attended by a delegation of local residents opposed to the development on the grounds that it would lead to an increase in anti-social behaviour in the area.
Council members agreed to a proposal from Mayor Katheen Leddin that a vote on the application be postponed for a month to allow them consider submissions from those in favour and those opposed to the development.
