AMMUNITION suspected to be connected to dissident republican activity has been recovered in Limerick after gardai searched addresses following the arrest of two men in Dublin over the weekend.
As part of ongoing investigations into the activities of Dissident Republicans in Dublin and Limerick members of An Garda Siochana attached to the Special Detective Unit and the Crime and Security section arrested two males at James Street, Dublin on Saturday afternoon.
Two handguns were also recovered at the scene and a technical examination will be carried out.In a follow up search later on Saturday, a quantity of ammunition was also recovered in Limerick.
The two males are currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 at Clondalkin Garda Station.
A major garda Investigation is ongoing as the two men are to appear before a sitting of the Special Criminal Court this Monday.
