Charged with theft from Limerick community project

limerickdistrictcourtbuildingsALMOST €14,000 was taken from a community based project for young people and a 37-year-old Limerick woman has been charged in relation to the alleged offences.

Martina Keane, Glendale Lawn, Old Singland Road, Limerick, is charged with 54 counts of theft from The Southill Outreach Youth Project, Galvone, Limerick on dates between January 29, 2001 and November 11, 2012.

It’s alleged Ms Keane transferred cash, belonging to the Southill Outreach Youth Project, in the form of an electronic transfer to her own account at AIB, William Street, Limerick in various amounts from €100 to €800, totalling €13,973.55

At Limerick District Court, Judge Eugene O’Kelly also heard that Ms Keane was also charged with the theft of office supplies, valued at €95.95 from the Southill Outreach Youth Project on November 19 last.

Sgt Donal Cronin told the court that the DPP has directed that the charges be dealt with at the Circuit Criminal Court.

Defence Solicitor John Herbert was assigned to represent Ms Keane and the matter was adjourned for eight weeks for the preparation of the book of evidence.

Ms Keane was released on bail on her own bond of €500 and is due to appear again on November 20 next.
