Senior football Championship preview

Football Cup 1THE IRISH Wire Products sponsored Limerick Senior Football championships enter the business end of the season this weekend as sides battle for semi final, quarter final and relegation elimination.
With so much at stake for all sides, the games are sure to be fiercely competitive.

Saturday, Askeaton, 6pm
Newcastlewest v Monaleen
Arguably the most high profile contest of the championship thus far. Anticipate a cracker. There is a lot on the line as both sides look to qualify from the group. Neither side has hit top form as of yet, but both sides have bags of potential. This affair should go down to the wire. Personally, I can’t pick a winner.
Prediction: Draw

Saturday, Askeaton, 6pm
St Kierans v Adare
Adare this year have not been the side of old. Kieran’s on the other hand have been a bit of a surprise package of this years championship and would, at this stage, have to be regarded as one of the favourites. Kieran’s should have too much in the tank, leading to a win.
Prediction: St. Kierans

Sunday, Caherconlish, 6pm
Pallasgreen v St. Patricks
Pallasgreen have struggled badly in this group and relegation is looming. St Patrick’s haven’t set the world alight, however, but they should have enough quality to obtain a victory.
Prediction: St Patrick’s

Sunday, 6pm, Ballyagran
Ballysteen  v Galbally
These two sides are in desperate need of a victory. They are both balancing on the line between qualification from the group and a relegation dogfight. This is another game that could go down to a kick of the ball.
Prediction: Galbally

Sunday, 6pm, Kilmallock
Ballylanders v Drom/Broadford
A top of the table clash, provides an intriguing encounter. The champions have been impressive, but Ballylanders have become dark horses in this competition. Both sides will be looking to secure that all important semi final berth. The champions may just have too much firepower,
Prediction: Drom/Broadford

Sunday, 6pm, Newcastlewest
Fr Casey’s v Mountcollins
A bottom of the table clash ends a disappointing year for both sides, especially the Abbeyfeale men who came in with such high prospects.
A relegation dogfight is on the cards here, but Mountcollins don’t look like they could pick up a victory from this one.
Prediction: Fr Casey’s
