LIMERICK Post has brought you news previously of Limerick Jazz’s second annual festival, taking place over the weekend of Friday Sept 27 to Sunday 29 and spread across various venues.

First up is Mr Larry McKenna, one of the world’s great jazz saxophone players. His arresting tones, polished by decades of playing with the world’s finest, will sing out from Clarion Hotel’s Pegasus Room on Friday September 27, an 8pm gig.

For years, Larry’s status as a jazz great has been affirmed by his myriad fans, by stars with whom he has played and recorded such as Woody Herman, Clark Terry and Buddy DeFranco and by the legendary vocalists he has accompanied.

“These number Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and Frank Sinatra,” observes Limerick Jazz chair, John Daly. ” Larry’s mastery of his instrument and the genre can be heard in his gorgeously warm tenor sound, in his impressive technical facility, and in the passion and depth of feeling he brings to his playing”.

“A concert by Larry McKenna promises to move you, both emotionally and through the tapping of your feet, as you experience the brilliant improvisations of this world class jazz musician,” John states, backing him on Friday September 27 with vibrophone master Tony Miceli by sharing rhythm section with Damien Evans.
