TWO historical figures who lived centuries apart should be commemorated by Limerick City Council, it has been proposed.
“JFK and Brian Ború should be honoured for their extraordinary contribution to the advancement of Limerick, Ireland and internationals affairs,” said Limerick city Cllr Pat Kennedy.
The independent councillor wants the Shannon Bridge at Lower Mallow Street to be renamed John Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge and Merchants Quay near Limerick City Hall to be renamed Brian Ború Square.
“I am proposing a motion for September’s city council meeting and I hope that the powers that be give the renaming of these landmarks serious consideration. Not only do these men deserve to be honoured in Limerick, I also think that renaming areas of the city will attract more tourism activity. These epic historical figures deserve to be commemorated appropriately,” he said.
