LIMERICK fans of Superquinn’s legendary sausages have raised concerns about the future of the beloved pork product. But there was consolation for them from the man who tarted it all. It was announced last week that all Superquinns, including the outlet on the Dublin Road, will be rebranded as Supervalu. Commenting on the sausages that first hit the shelves in 1979, Superquinn founder and former owner Fergal Quinn said: “People who are really into sausages are not eating them for health they are eating them for taste, so we went for the tastiest, we found the right recipe and it’s still a secret recipe and I’m sure Musgraves won’t allow anybody to learn the secret”. The former supermarket supremo, who sold up in 2005 for €420 million and now has no involvement in the business said in a radio interview: “I think they should give some thought to keeping more than the Superquinn sausages……All Supervalus should be called Superquinn, not the other way round”.
