The €300,000 drug find made earlier this month at Shannon Airport and Ollie the sniffer dog made another similar drug find this week in a consignment from Spain valued at €50,000

OVER €50,000 worth of cannabis was seized at Shannon Airport last week when Ollie, a Revenue and Customs sniffer dog gave a positive indication of the presence of the drugs in a consignment of freight from Spain last Tuesday.

Investigations are ongoing in the matter and an Garda Siochana together with officers from the Revenue and Customs are following a number of lines of inquiry.

The find comes just weeks after Ollie uncovered over €300,000 worth of cannabis in a freight consignment.

In other operations, customs officers seized 17,800 “Winston” cigarettes at Dublin Airport with a retail value of €8,500 from a Moldovan national who arrived in on a flight from Moscow earlier this week. He was arrested, charged and remanded in custody to appear in court again next month.

Separately, another Moldovan national was sentenced to three months in prison for illegally importing over 20,000 cigarettes valued at over €10,000. He also received a €2,500 fine for defrauding the Exchequer of over €9,000 in loss of revenue.
