BALLYBRICKEN native Rebecca Barry has been nominated in the Best Play category in the ESPY awards, a prestigious honour run by American sports broadcaster ESPN.
Her incredible goal for University of Richmond’s hockey team, scored in the first minute of their match against Temple, was deemed worthy of a nomination and she is one of just two women in the Best Play category.
Her illustrious competition for the award includes record Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps and Swedish soccer supremo Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
She is the first hockey player to ever be shortlisted for the award and the final four will head to Los Angeles for the awards ceremony in mid-July.
You can view Rebecca’s stunning goal and cast your vote for the only Irish nominee in the 2013 ESPYs at http://espn.go.com/espys/2013/vote/index?SPSID=635064&SPID=94295&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=26800&matchup=9415817. The first round of voting closes on Monday July 8.
