LIMERICK will face Cork in the Munster Senior Hurling final of 2013. The game, which will be played on July 14 at 4pm, is the first time the old rivals will meet in the final since 1992.
Jimmy Barry Murphy’s Cork side qualified for this season’s decider with a 0-23 to 0-15 win over Clare at the Gaelic Grounds last Sunday 22 afternoon.
Limerick will be looking for their first provincial crown since 1996, while Cork have not lifted silverware in the Munster championship since 2006.
The show piece tie will also see Limerick’s manager, Cork All Ireland winner John Allen, go face to face with his native county.
The unexpected and novel pairing of Limerick and Cork will serve as a reminder to all that league form matters for little in the hurling championship. Cork, relegated from Division 1A, will face Limerick, who lost the Division 1B final this year.
With the throw in scheduled for 4pm, the game is also available on TV, with RTE is expected to show the game live in HD.
A capacity crowd of 45,000 is expected at the Ennis Road venue for the title decider. Stand tickets will be distributed to the GAA clubs at the end of this week. (Once the Minor final pairing is known)
Stand tickets not sold through the club and terrace tickets will be available for general sale, from the Gaelic Grounds the week of the game itself.
