A MAN is recovering in hospital in Limerick today after being shot in the face in the city.

The victim who is 21 was shot in an area of open ground just off Hyde Road, Ballinacurra Weston, shortly after midnight this morning.

It’s understood he suffered multiple injuries to his upper body and face from shotgun pellets.

He was recovering at University Hospital Limerick where his injuries were described as non-life threatening.

As part of a follow up operation, a 19 year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was being held last night at Roxboro Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A technical examination of the scene took place and searches were also underway. Detectives are still working to establish a motive for the shooting.
