THE ‘That’s Limerick’ event, which took place on Tuesday, June 18 in Dublin’s Temple Bar, showcased all the city and county has to offer as a conference and sport event location.

Attended by key business leaders and well-known Limerick personalities, the event played host to Limerick hotels, venues, academic institutes, sporting facilities and festivals.

Those in attendance were also treated to fine food from Limerick’s top restaurants, as well as a variety of Limerick cultural performances including scenes from Pigtown, Fidget Feet (Aerial Acrobatics) and Gospel Music.

The lively evening, supported by Fáilte Ireland, gave a taster of how Limerick’s top venues are preparing for what promises to be a pivotal year for the city.

The city is expected to attract national and international conferences throughout the 2014 National City of Culture year through the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau and the work of the Failte Ireland Business Tourism Conference Ambassador programme.

Karl Wallace, artistic director, Limerick City of Culture 2014 commented: “We support the endeavour of the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau in attracting business to Limerick, we believe that this will be a significant boost to the year of culture in Limerick 2014. Next year the spotlight turns to Limerick and its many cultural offerings; welcoming visitors and neighbours to share in the creative talents of the city and its incredible people.”

Tony Brazil, chair of Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau said: “Limerick has emerged from the ashes, as Frank McCourt might put it, and has become a vibrant multicultural city with world class conference and sporting venues. A testament to Limerick’s status as an international event location is making the shortlist for the 2018 World Gay Games alongside the cultural capitals of London and Paris.”
